Secrets of Command and Conquer 3 Revealed in 2nd Podcast
Status Update on the Game:
This is a detailed review of the latest Podcast filled with information you will not want to miss. You can also discuss the on our forums in more detail. (CNC3 Forums Link) Tiberium was the main focus of the conversation. Also in August, they are "cooking up some cool stuff to show at the convention," the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany. In their words it will be the "Next time we are going to show actual gameplay for Command and Conquer 3."
This was clear when the lead designer mentioned is that they are already playing full on multiplayer games which is a great sign the game is progressing well. He also mentioned they are starting to play with the Nod Units describing them as "pretty sweet."
What is Tiberium?
Catalist for global war that has gone on for years, global distaster, possibly a teraforming agent from "aliens..." There is a lot of speculation of where Tiberium came from. Technically it is a self replicating substance. By the time the game starts there are many parts of the earth that have been rendered large parts of the planets surface into toxic wastelands.

Our money is that Tiberium is from an alien substance teraforming the earth. This will lead to clues on the third race. Ever see War of the Worlds with sexy Tom Cruise? Kinda green back there? Hmmmm
Strategic Hint:
Water tends to accelerate the rate at which tiberium spreads.
What will Tiberium do for the Player?
"Tiberium is the basis of your economy..." Crucial to get your army and base up and running. Certain units react with tiberium in different ways and it affects the way different zones (red, blue and yellow) will play out.
Has the original resource system evolved from the original CNC3?
The resource management system will be similar to what it has been. There will be harvesters, refineries, and silos, giving the player assets he or she will need to protect. They were described as "juicy targets." You can attack players economies and steal their money using certain special units.
Infantry have always been vulnerable to Tiberium. Zone troopers are immune to Tiberium but other less armored infantry are vulnerable.
Blue Yellow and Red Zones, how are the different zones playing a role in CNC3?
The GDI (one of the three factions) has classified the world into three zones.
Red Zones
Toxic, does not support life. (alien substance - gives off radiation)
Ion storms that come into play with lightning blasts that discharge into the ground with strong winds.
Yellow Zones
Tiberium is growing in many different areas creating wastelands and unpleasant places to live.
80% of worlds population.
Blue Zones
Pristine areas not really affected by Tiberium but reaping all the benefits of Tiberium. Tiberium in this area is very dense and organized.
Relationship between Ion Storms and Tiberium?
Yes but to early to reveal.
How will zones play out in gameplay?
They have a big focus on balance but at the same time expect different gameplay in eachzone.
They are making sure players will not have "runaway economies" by getting tons of Tiberium.
Can you run out of Tiberium on the battlefield?
Tiberium regrows so the short answer is no. However it grows back slow so dont count on a fast supply there will need to be strategy involved in how you use it.
What is about NOD and GDI and their relationships with Tiberium?
GDI wants to contain it but they are still addicted to it. NOD wants to spread Tiberium everywhere, it's the basis of their faith/economy/technology and transformation to the next plain of evolution. For this reason NOD likes to roll in yellow zones and are welcome by the people.
Speed of the gameplay; How is that going to be affect the speed of the game?
"Fast Fluid and Fun is their motto..." There will be a variety of maps that dictate the speed of the game.
Can you have more than one harvestor?
Yes, and its crucial to the game. You can have more than one refinery as well.
Tiberium and its evolution:
It has been evolving even as CNC3 is created. They tried to update the look in a way faithful to the other games but adding new stuff at the same time.
Hint - Tiberium is at the center of this game. Everything flows with Tiberium as a centrol element and tied very much to the gameplay.
Upcoming Event:
People will be able to see the first multiplayer match between GDI and NOD at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany. There will be a big announcement also.
Hint - One of the factions will have a very tactical use of Tiberium and be able to do "some crazy stuff with tiberium"
Special Guests:
Executive Director, Lead Designer, were present.
